Presentation on the extraterritoriality of pre- and post-judgement enforcement claims for SIFMA Working Group on Subpoenas, Levies & Garnishments.
John Murphy presented on the extraterritoriality of pre- and post-judgment enforcement claims for the Securities Industry and Financial Market’s Association’s Working Group on Subpoenas, Levies & Garnishments. The presentation, which traced the development of the extraterritorial reach of New York’s courts in the context of recent decisions by the N.Y Court of Appeal in Ayyash v Koleilat and the U.S. Supreme Court’s Daimler AG v Bauman, offered practical advice to attorneys working in-house roles on how to respond to garnishment and attachment orders. John Murphy presented on the intricacies and techniques involved in prepping and defending depositions as part of the New York City Bar Association’s seminar Taking & Defending Depositions: Strategic Tops & Techniques. Also speaking were Kirkland & Ellis partner Andrew Clubok and the hon. Alvin K. Hallerstein, senior judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The article, in one of Ireland’s leading broadsheets, outlined the fate of the Quinn campaign in the context of Irish-American politics in the United States’ biggest city. John Murphy represents Irish diaspora at Irish Constitutional Convention
John Murphy represented the Irish diaspora in the United States at the September 28th Plenary Meeting of the Irish national Constitutional Convention.
The constitutional convention is an official Irish government body established to debate potential changes to Ireland’s constitution. Its September plenary meeting discussed the issue of the right of the Irish diaspora to vote in Irish presidential elections. In presenting the topic for vote, the convention asked to a number of representatives of the Irish diaspora overseas to give their views on the topic.
Joining other Irish dispora representatives from France, Germany, Canada, Northern Ireland and Australia, John’s contribution underlined the importance of the contribution made by the diaspora over the years, and argued in favor of the right to vote as a means of strengthening ties between the Irish diaspora and the community at home.
John has been heavily involved in the Irish community in the United States for the last two decades. A current president of the Irish American Bar Association, John is also a founder of Irish Network-NYC and president of the Manhattan Gael’s Gaelic football association.

John Murphy Co-chairs Committee Meeting for Concern’s Annual Winter Ball
John Murphy co-chaired the Fall organizational committee meeting of the 2013 Concern Worldwide’s Annual Winter Ball.
The ball, held in Manhattan each December, raises over US$125,000 annually for Concern’s food, education and development programs, is a highlight of the organization’s winter fundraising drive. Further information on the event can be found here.
Concern is one of the world’s foremost NGOs providing aid in some of the world’s most conflict torn countries, including Afghanistan, Syria and Somalia.
